Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Texas is a process that uses a neutral third party to help settle disputes outside of court. The goal of ADR is to reduce the cost and time of litigation, and to increase the fairness of the judicial system. 

How ADR works

• A court can refer a case to ADR on its own or at the request of a party involved in the dispute 
• The type of ADR used depends on the nature of the dispute 
• ADR can be voluntary or mandatory, and binding or non-binding 
• ADR procedures include mediation, mini-trials, and arbitration 
• Most disputes are resolved in one day or less (4 to 8 hours)
